Why should I give?

God invites us to worship Him in all areas of our lives, including the way we spend our money. Financially supporting a ministry like Liberty Church Amsterdam is an excellent way of doing this—here are a few reasons why:

It’s an act of worship and ministry. John considers his financial supporters ‘fellow workers’ with him (3 John 1:5–8); even though they do not do the ministry physically, their funds have made it possible, making them a part of his work;

It broadens and expands this ministry, enabling us to do more things that serve people and advance God’s kingdom in this city;

It deepens our passion for what God is doing in Amsterdam. We put our money where our priority lies, and then our heart follows where our money goes.

How much should I give?

Because it is an act of worship, God is more interested in the shape of our heart than the size of our gift. That means we should seek to give joyfully, generously and sacrificially.

Give joyfully

Because we are able to achieve something with our money, we have reasons to rejoice. Our money enables ministry to take place—and this means people hear the gospel, see God’s heart, and witness His power in their lives.

Give generously

When Paul called the Corinthians to support his work financially, he encouraged them to mimic the generosity of their God, who has ‘distributed freely’ (2 Corinthians 9:9). The generous heart looks for an opportunity to serve, seeing not what we must sacrifice but what our resources are able to accomplish.

Give sacrificially

There is no set amount we need to give, but giving sacrificially helps us prioritise God’s eternal kingdom over temporal ‘stuff’, and deepens our sense of dependence on Him.
