We can pour out our hearts to God in prayer. We don’t need to use specific wording, and scripture even discourages the types of prayers where the eloquence of the wording has become the focus (Matt. 6:5-15). However sometimes in prayer, especially in situations that grieve our hearts, it can be hard to know what to say.
A great addition to your own words can be to read passages from the Bible. We can declare God’s promises & his mighty works throughout time and we can join our voices with those of God followers recorded in scripture.
The following are a few suggestions of passages that you could use to pray for healing:
Philippians 4:4
Rejoice in the Lord always; again I will say, rejoice. Let your reasonableness be known to everyone. The Lord is at hand; do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
Psalm 103:2–5
Bless the LORD, O my soul,
and forget not all his benefits,
who forgives all your iniquity,
who heals all your diseases,
who redeems your life from the pit,
who crowns you with steadfast love and mercy,
who satisfies you with good
so that your youth is renewed like the eagle’s.
Psalm 34:18–19
The LORD is near to the brokenhearted
and saves the crushed in spirit.
Many are the afflictions of the righteous,
but the LORD delivers him out of them all.
Isaiah 53:5
But he was pierced for our transgressions;
he was crushed for our iniquities;
upon him was the chastisement that brought us peace,
and with his wounds we are healed.
Revelation 21:4–5
“He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain anymore, for the former things have passed away.”
And he who was seated on the throne said, “Behold, I am making all things new.” Also he said, “Write this down, for these words are trustworthy and true.”
