A church is not a building – it’s all about people. Meet our vibrant community, made up of people from all over the world. We invite you to join us as we seek to love and serve God in Amsterdam.

Church as family

Although God is one, He is also a community of three persons who love each other eternally. He reflected this unity and diversity when He made people in His image. So community isn’t just a good idea; it is vital to who we are in Christ. Jesus had His Church in mind when He went to the cross and He’s rescued each of us into God’s family. Here in Amsterdam, we want to build a local community of believers that reaches across the dividing walls around us, particularly the racial and economic divides in our city, believing that Jesus came to bring peace and reconciliation through the cross.

Community Groups

As well as gathering together every Sunday, we also meet midweek in small groups across the city. These groups are a great way to get to know more people, build friendships and encourage one another in our faith. We have groups meeting across the city on midweek evenings. If you’d like to join one of these community groups you can sign up at lbty.ch/groups

Get to know a few of our group leaders…

DANIËL | HAARLEM

Daniël came to Amsterdam with his wife, Kelly, for a work/travel adventure. We enjoy sharing our faith, friendship and sometimes food in our Community Group. We meet in various locations across Haarlem.

MEGHAN & COLLIN | DE PIJP

Meghan and Collin moved to Amsterdam from Chicago, USA and are loving being immersed in a new country and culture. They love that their community group is more than just a bible study, but really a life group where people are committed to showing up for each other and growing in their relationship with God together.

YORDI, NATALIA & MARJOLEIN | VONDELKERK

We come from The Netherlands and Colombia. Our community group is a place where we grow together in faith, share our journeys, and encourage one another in Christ. Every Tuesday, we meet to learn from the Bible, deepen our relationship with God, and support each other in a safe and welcoming space. You’re invited to join us as we walk this journey of faith together!

LISA, PETER & ANNA | NIEUW-ZUID

Anna is Dutch, Lisa is South African and Peter is Danish-Hungarian, so we are a culturally diverse group, with a desire to have a safe place to encounter each other as we are. We love prayer and worship in particular and desire to grow together and support each other in our walk with Jesus.

LUDO & JESS | WEESP

Jess and Ludo came to Amsterdam from Sydney, Australia because of Ludo’s Dutch heritage. They wanted to see what life was like in the Netherlands, and after 8 years they are still loving it. They love that their community group is a place where people can openly share their lives, enjoy friendship, and figure out what their faith looks like in practice. The group consists of members from Zuidoost & surrounding areas to Weesp.

MIRIAM, WULFERT, EVERT & JESSICA | ALMERE

Miriam comes from Spain and moved to Amsterdam to look for a new adventure. Wulfert, Evert and Jessica are from the Netherlands. They love getting to know Jesus better, building deeper connections and meeting new people. They meet once every two weeks on Wednesday, alternating between Almere Muziekwijk and Almere Poort.

KAMILA, HADASSA & MARK | OUD-ZUID

Led by Kamila from Kyrgyzstan, Mark from the Netherlands, and his wife Hadassa, a Dutch-born Vietnamese, this group brings together diverse backgrounds to share faith and life. Most members attend the service in the Thomaskerk, while some regularly go to the Vondelkerk—and everyone is welcome! We meet every Thursday near the Olympic Stadium in Oud-Zuid, and enjoy fellowship, good conversations, tea, and food.

BRIAN & NIMSI | ZUID

We are Brian & Nimsi from Amsterdam Zuid. The Lord in his abundant grace brought us and our two sons to Amsterdam in 2021 from Dubai. The Lord led us to Liberty church as a result of our prayers for a church that is faithful to Christ, preaches the sound gospel and appreciates Christian community and fellowship. We feel truly blessed to be part of Liberty church and lead the Amsterdam Zuid community group.

GABRIEL | OOST

Gabriel came to Amsterdam from the Philippines through work. For him, the beauty of having a community group is the active sharing & living out of the Gospel of Jesus with others. It is journeying with people from all walks of life–striving to know more about Jesus, becoming more like Him, and doing as He did through the power of the Holy Spirit. Gabriel’s group meets in Amsterdam-Oost on Wednesday evenings.

BRETT, NERINE & SOPHIE | AMSTELVEEN

Our community group meets in Amstelveen. Brett and Nerine moved to the Netherlands from Doha 7 years ago. Sophie’s family have lived in Amstelveen for 4 years. Our heart for our community group is to create a safe space for all of us to connect, dwell and grow in our faith in Jesus. We meet every 2 weeks on a Thursday evening, and every few weeks we have a weekend gathering. All are welcome!

VINCENT | OOST

Hi, I’m Vincent from Amsterdam, and I love this city! One of the best parts of my week is our community group, where we pray, read the Bible, and have honest conversations about faith. It’s been a huge blessing to walk this journey with others, especially in a culture that values individuality. We meet Wednesdays in Amsterdam Oost, alternating between 2 locations in Oost. Come join us—we’d love to welcome you!

STEPHEN & JAMIE | SINGEL

Stephen and Jamie moved to Amsterdam from Atlanta, GA in January 2024. Jamie has a heart for hospitality and they both enjoy hosting and having people in their home. They love that their community group feels like a family and that they genuinely enjoy each other and have fun together, while growing together in their love and knowledge of Jesus.

PETER, TINA, JESS & INNES | OUD WEST

We are four South African millennials, juggling professional careers and young kids! We meet weekly for a cozy cup of tea and a sweet treat, creating space to catch up, pray, and dive deep into the Word. It’s a warm, welcoming crew where we share life, faith, and plenty of laughter. Come grow with us!

MARTHA | VONDELBUURT

Hi I’m Martha! I came from Germany to Amsterdam in 2016. I direct a non-profit called Connexxion that helps reach university students. I love the fun friendships that God creates through our community groups. I enjoy “unpacking” what we learn on Sundays with others & discovering even more how to apply the message in everyday life.

COLIN, HEIDI & ELISABETH | WEST

Colin moved to the Netherlands from the UK 10 years ago for work. Heidi moved from the Philippines to do her PhD here. Elisabeth moved from the US for work 3 years ago. We enjoy facilitating connections among our group, seeing how God speaks to us in different and meaningful ways, and living lives together!

You

Are you interested in being part of Liberty Church? Our community is made up of people from all over the world – including ‘born & bred’ Amsterdammers and many from much further afield.

We’re always keen to welcome new people and we’re sure you’ll feel at home with us. We’d love to hear from you.

Leadership

We believe that Jesus leads His church and we are first and foremost called to be followers of Him. Where we are called to be leaders, we seek to follow Jesus’ example and try to lead gently, humbly, and approachably, in a down-to-earth manner. We believe that leadership is a gift that God gives to both men and women. We have many men and women who lead community groups, lead at our Sunday gatherings in different ways, lead social justice ministries, and in many more ways.

In 2022, we appointed a team of four men as elders to oversee Liberty Church, following the example we see in the New Testament (Acts 14:23). In this fathering/shepherding role, elders are called not to a hierarchical position or status but rather to follow Jesus’ example and lovingly, self-sacrificially lay down their lives for the church.
